Dick Clark

I, along with many in the broadcasting field, was sadden by the passing of Dick Clark yesterday. When you think of the pioneers of Radio AND TV, his name is immediately one of the top 3, if not the top when it comes to entertainment. I grew up to the likes of Rick Dee's, so I was on the fringe of Dick Clark's era with American Bandstand. That doesn't mean you can't look at the TV and listen on radio and hear his impact in today's form. From the artists interviews to the way TV and radio hosts talk, it came from America's Oldest Teenager Dick Clark.

I was reading more about Dick Clark, probably like many of you, on websites and articles after his passing. I ran across a quote from his autobiography that to me as a newbie still in this radio career stood out to me as how I want to come across on my shows to you, the listener:

"a radio announcer does not talk to 'those of you out there in radio land'; a radio announcer talks to me as an individual".

RIP Dick Clark. Thank you for everything.

I'm not going to lie...when I first heard about Avatar in 3D, I thought it was overrated. No way 3D takes off...no way I'm going to spend extra money to see 3D. Well..I guess it's time for me to fess up...I'm a liar. I have now seen a handful of movies in 3D...some impressive, some a waste of my extra $2.50. Then there's Titanic 3D. The wife and I went to go watch it this past weekend in 3D and if you want to see what a movie SHOULD look like in 3D, it's Titanic. I think what amazes me most about Titanic in 3D isn't the images (it's by far THE best), it isn't the fact 15 years later the CGI still holds up (it does), it's 15 years later...a movie made without the forethought of 3D even mentioned in production pulls off today's technology so well. There are movies produced today that go back in post production and add the 3D effects to the film to make extra money and comes out looking half-hearted (Thor 3D I'm looking at you).  The 3D in the movie actually made me feel like I was on the ship, I was in the middle of the action, it made me forget it's almost a 3 hour movie. If you get the chance too, go see Titanic 3D. It's a whole new experience. Even if you've seen it a bajillion times in the movies and at home...this is truely a whole new movie going experience. It's what 3D at the Theaters SHOULD and will hopefully be like in the future to come.

So Clay, Mike, and myself were all doing nothing like we always do on a Fridays and we were tossing around ideas of what we'd do if we won $650 million dollars. Then we thought "Hey! It'd be a great idea to all chip in and do an office pool and split it 3 ways if we won." Then we thought...why stop there...why not share the wealth with our LISTENERS! So...here's what you need to do...go to our FACEBOOK page, "Like" the status saying if we win we'll split it with all of those who have liked the status.

Of course, all state rules apply. The cut off time will be up until the drawing. If you don't have a facebook account, that's okay, just e-mail me zoel@mytown-media.com and we'll make sure your name is entered amoung the growing numbers. Hey, it's just another way we cater to our listeners :)
